  • HP Latex 365 ink – Average Ink Cost

    Posted by Hugh Potter on 25 November 2024 at 23:53

    I know it will vary from job to job, but has anyone taken the time to work out an average ink usage per square metre on full-colour printing?

    I’ve been meaning to work it out and set the thingy on the printer to record it, but never ever remember when the printer is idle!

    If anyone has a rough calc, I’d love to know, I’m in the process of checking my 6 year old costings for some of my branded products I sell!

    TIA,

    Hugh

    My 335 figures below, averaged over 1000 Sq/M of various print media and coverage.

    8.17ml per Sq/M ~ £1.09 Sq/M for ink.

    This is not a technically worked-out calculation, but as a guide, I allow £2 per square metre or £3 a linear Metre.
    There are various things that I would expect will play a part in calculating “accurate” costs.

    * Ink coverage
    * Buying price per cart
    * Media Type
    * Profile setting/passes

    As I have said, this is just my rule of thumb, guide.
    My opinion is, that if I really have to get down to nitty-gritty calculations, then I am not charging enough for my work if I have to be so precise with my margins.

      Thanks Rob,

      Just wanted a rough idea so I can work out (as near as poss) exact costs on some branded items I sell. We need to increase prices on the wholesale side of things and I know roughly where we need to be, but ‘someone’ doesn’t trust my maths and I have a point to prove when I say it is like “ten to a penny” !!

    You can login to the printers web server, and it will show you the total SQ/M and how much ink it has used, from that with you cost per cart, you can work it out. That’s how I did it. You can even narrow it down to different media as it will tell you how much of each media you have used.
