  • Latest model ford transit rear blue oval ford gage removal advice please

Posted by Jamie Palmer on 30 January 2019 at 20:04

Good evening, I have a new ford transit in the shop at the min, I have stripped pretty much every obstacle (colour change wrap) however the rear ford badge needs to come off.

I have stripped the inside of the door and it looks to be held in with two rivits possibly a third smaller also.
I could wrap over and cut however the badge is almost within an oval recess and I want perfection and so t believe I will obtain without removing.

I have looked online for further info but nothing of any use. If anyone has experience with these badges or can offer advice it would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

Our (66 plate) it was just held on with that foam VHB tape.

Warm the badge and work it away.

    I can’t remember that.

I don’t recall any other fixings than the foam tape. Ours came off really cleanly, just stuck it back on using the same tape.

I use fishing line to get these off. Tuck the fishing line behind the badge, and cut through the VHB tape with a sawing action.

Sorry to highjack, but what weight fishing line do you use?

Keep meaning to pick some up for this purpose.

Cant remember weight, sorry. I just got the strongest and thinnest available, when I got it about 10 years ago. I would check but I am at home now.

Best bet is to buy some cheap braided fishing line, known as Braid, I’ve used most lines in my tackle box from 15lb through to 80lb shock leader, the latter is strongest but quite thick.

Braid, has high breaking strain and is very thin, just be sure to use a makeshift handle at either end or it will cut to the bone under enough tension… I’ve the scars to prove it 🙁

Thin guitar strings also work great. My guitar has only 4 strings now after pinching 2 for a job 🙂

300m, of 20lb braided line, in our company colour too £5.99 delivered… let’s see how we get on with it.

I’ll either get through 300m on the first van or I’ll get buried with the remaining 299m in years to come.

    Most likely the latter!!

Seriously though, make a couple of handles out of some 1" dowel or similar, do not try and pull with hands!!

Thanks for the advice, it turns out they were just locating pins for installation
