  • Laser Sublimation & Vinyl Print Question??

    Hi there,

I have been looking at the TMT laser transfer system from The Magic Touch (Epson Aculaser C8600 A3 printer), but wondered if some of you image transfer Guru’s out there might have the answer to a couple of questions??

    1) Can these printers be used as normal laser printers?

    2) I have a GX24 (with OPAS) and wondered if the laser printer can print full colour directly onto A3 vinyl sheet to then be contour cut using the OPAS? (i.e. can I make full colour, contour cut stickers with these two machines??)

    3) If I can make stickers this way, is there any form of external durability from the laser on vinyl – or do I need to look at lamination?

    4) I can’t afford a Cadet or VersaCamm, so do you think this system will be a good ‘halfway house’ considering I will only be producing small stickers (full colour) general vinyl cutting and having the facility to print onto many different materials (mugs, plaques etc….)

Many thanks for your time and answers….. 😀 😉

    Regards,

    Bruce.

car`t be sure of question 1, but I`d say yes.

question 2. yes this would work, but how durable the graphic would be, thats another matter. i can`t see the tonner used as very UV/abrasive resistant.

I know that laser printers are different to ink-jet, but I think the principle of dye sublimation is the same for both. (But I could be wrong-I usually am).

When I looked at using dye sub through my Epson 1290 I asked the same question, ie can you change between normal inks & sub inks.

The answer was a definite NO, but I can’t remember quite why at the moment. If it comes to me I’ll let you know.

Someone is bound to come up with the answer.

The Magic Touch system is not sublimation, it uses ordinary toner so the printer can be used for other general printing.
