I met a guy at the uksignshow who i was talking to. He had a second hand laminator which he was selling for £700. is this a good price for a second user laminator?? it is 1600 wide with a backing paper takeup. it has an electric foot pedal and operates forward and reverse. that is everything that i know about it for now. Help would be appreciated. It is from a chinese manufacturer as that was what i was told and dont know if anyone has imported laminators from the far east and how they perform. Sign show was great and was hoping to see people I know from here but i didnt!! gong again on thurday so may be i will see a few familiar faces 😀 😀 😀

its only a good price if it does what you need.
you should be able to work it out if you have looked around the show.

Not enough info to cast an opinion on what you were offered though

    Hi Peter,

I,ve looked around for a while and have found that laminators do go from £1200 to £3300 for the same width!!! so i am a little confused as to why this is when a laminator just laminates. of course quality is always a key factor but the pricing is quite an extreme! Ive looked on ebay and they all seem to be £1200+. I’m strongly thinking of going for the machine and will probably pick it up tommorow but thought i would ask people who have experience and more knowledge then myself with laminators to cast an experienced opinion.

    Thank you 😀 😀 😀

as I said, look around the show, see what is available and how much new, ask the suppliers what are the advantages of their machine, etc. etc.
then ask yourself if the machine for £700 is a good buy?
It could well be, but you need to be aware that good machines are not cheap. I have a bottom of the range cold laminator, new they cost £2500, (look on signmaster’s stand) it does what I want, and does it right without wasting materials.

I’ve got a chinese laminator it has foot pedal and forward/reverse, no take up roller though but could be similar machine. It does the job but the build/engineering quality leaves a lot to be desired. I intend to replace it with a better quality hot laminator sometime in the future when finances allow. Like I said it does the job but I wouldn’t recommend it,that said yours might be totally different and be of decent build quality.

I would stay clear of any form of laminator made in China… We purchased one when we first started out…Ended up causing us more problems then profit….In the end i couldn’t even give it away!

To be fair – the Chinese stuff may be cheap, it may be poor build quality…but very often it works well if used within its limitations.

I use a set of Chinese ‘rollers’ – to be fair, calling it a laminator is an insult. BUT, it’s laminated many, many hundreds of metres of print at 1350mm, rolled on vinyl onto anything from 3 to 10mm thick and works a treat.

Same here harpreet, Soyeb i would stay clear mate, i think i no who its from as well and it may be the same firm we got ours from, which is now in pieces under one of our benches.

Like Pete says invest that little bit more and you’ll get a better machine that wont cause you problems.

Sorry that was Tuesday and Thursday. Laser quest Neil?? 😀 I bought that laminator in the end as it came with a 12 month warranty and seemed to have a pretty good build quality. I put a deposit down but some were trying to buy it for a little more. will certainly post pics of it when I get it.
