  • Lamination Alignment…

Posted by Nathan on 20 September 2008 at 07:35

We’re having problems with our laminate as it seems to wonder about 5 -10mm on a print of 2.5m, does anybody have any tips how to stop this?

We’ve trying taping and feeding with a sledge but still no joy.

natham is this a new problem?
it could be caused by uneven pressure on each end of the rollers, or even if the machine is not level(not such an issue for small lengths though)

I have a feed table in front of my laminator that is perfectly square to it, for aligning the material.

    Thanks for the pointers Peter.

We realigned the rollers today to make sure there is even pressure and checked for any twist on the machine. It all seems to be correct, should we be expecting absolute precision or are we being too picky worrying about alignment going off 5-10mm?

I can only answer from my limited experience, and only from using one make of laminator, although I have used print that has been laminated by others.

It is not unusual for the laminate to run off a few mil over 5m, I have done up to 20m with less than 20mm run off, I think it is down to the initial set up by the operator as to the amount of run off you get.

I always leave a 500mm gap between prints, over 4m, so if the laminator needs re-aligning the roll can be cut easily.

To align perfectly would be quite some task, even on top end machines.
for a start the rolls would need to be perfectly wound, which they seldom are.
