  • Knifeless tape for van panels

Hi guys, i’m trying to cut a full colour digital print installed in the van panels. I’m having nightmares with wrapcut pro, my cuts are a little jagged and the tape does not seem to like corners, i have also tried some standard gloss sign vinyl with same results.

I have heard some say knifeless tape is better for curves and clean cuts. Is it worth my buying some or am i just using the wrapcut wrong ? also what of the knifeless tapes is best for digital prints, as i have seen a couple of different model names, ie designline ect

    Thanks Danny

In my opinion, The "white" Wrapcut Pro isn’t the best of the wrapcut tapes. the narrow red tape is better than the white one. the white is slightly wider and doesn’t bend as easy. the red one is the original.

Wrapcut bends easy enough in one direction, not both. however, unless your drawing shapes etc with the tape then one direction is all that is needed.

In my view Wrapcut gives me the most consistent clean cuts because the cutting filament is not cutting through the tape, "just the vinyl media" where as knifeless tape is cutting through both tape and vinyl media.

wrapcut will give you a clean 45 degree cut simply by nicking the tape, not something you can do with knifeless.

in my view, for a general vinyl applicator doing fleet graphics etc i much prefer the more cost effective option such as the red wrapcut, but for wrapping etc then the kifeless tape has the edge as its a softer tape to manipulate on curves etc.
you will struggle to buy wrapcut easily in the UK these days as there is a patent infringement by wrapcut in the sign and wrapping industry. where i think the wrapcuts patent exists in the auto industry in the USA, Canada etc. doing this from memory, so dont quote me on this but there is issues with wrapcut being sold in the UK market.

I have the white wrapcut pro, I didn’t know there was a red version!

I’ve had mixed results but, I am getting better with it. had a disaster using it to trip black film in full sunlight on a truck body.. just didn’t cut cleanly as the vinyl was too soft. Otherwise I find the steadier and smoother you can go with it, the better, I hold the leading edge of the vinyl either side and go fast over that initial cut, then try to keep a decent fast and consisten cut. Usually have no issues on most jobs.

I agree depending on the job, i use both wrap cut and knifeless tape, I get my wrap cut from MDP supplies……
