  • Keen Cut EVO II Cutting Issue

Posted by David Hammond on 10 May 2011 at 16:46

Just bought a keen cut EVO II and bench.

Got it all set up, and it is a nice bit of kit.

Holds the media well and it doesn’t move.

I was cutting a pull up banner the other day flush to the image. We lined up the trim marks each end and could see the middle of the cutter there was about 2-3mm of image. Which clearly there shouldn’t be if it’s a straight edge.

I have today take the cutter off and reset everything and tried again, still the same issue.

I was cutting some Digital vinyl flush to the image, lined up the trim marks, and still the image was getting cut?

Baffled, and open to advice on what the problem is!

hi David might be stretch on the substrate due to heat or tension have you measured the print all the way down i have had similar couldn’t work it out so just run a bit more bleed to compensate
if you get a definitive answer let me in on it 😀

if real pull up material that should not swell but most other materials will.
pull a length of cotton to see if it is straight, one day i thought my straight edge was bent, that’s how i checked it.

I have measured my Roll Up Banner this morning, that’s going in 5mm in the middle, then back out to right width near the bottom?

The vinyl. each end in 150mm wide, The middle is 147mm wide. Total dimensions of the print. 1800mm x 150mm

Can’t work it out? I wouldn’t worry usually but this is for large client, and know they’re quite particular.

just done 5 roll ups 850×2000 and not Even a mm out.

i have noticed a little swelling on some vinyl prints 2mm difference over 1000 but when i think of it, it was the cheaper material. i use a 1500mm straight edge.

only things i can think of is poor material, temp to high, excessive ink levels.
i cant think of a mechanical reason nor software.

I too have added bleed to my jobs.

Keen cut claim accuracy of 1:15000. So I assumed that it would be a straight edge, line up the trim mark and bob’s your uncle.

I get adding bleed will prevent a white edge, but doesn’t mean the cut is straight?

I was surprised to discover a bow in the middle of my cuts, and even more surprise to find I am not the only one.

Even so it’s better than doing it by hand, and makes life easier, and I wont loose any sleep over a few mm over a 2m print.
