  • Jv3 mimaki 160s print problem. Print quality not sharp

Hi guys i have a mimaki jv3 160s, machine was running fine until one day it decides to turn sour 🙁

    Problem 1
The print seems to have a slight colour edge over the side of the print, which comes now and again.

    Problem 2
The whole print prints fine but around the edges of print is slighlty off, with yellow and green outline and one side slight pink outline.

I have peformed numerous test cleans. Plenty of nozzle washes, cleaned capping station, Changed dampers, Changed ribbons.

    No problems with pumps,

Please help, i hope somebody can help me out there..

Looks like your head carriage has maybe taken a bit of a whack and/or the bi-directional calibration is a bit out.

You can re-calibrate it through the menus most likely…but if you’ve had a carriage jam / head strike then it may be a manual realignment with the adjusting screws.

Both take time…and usually require you to accept an ‘it’s close enough’…or call your friendly engineer and empty your pockets.

I had the same machine once…. head strike is correct… one thing tho.. keep an eye on Thick and Thin settings, have u moved them recently? It’s a bit Micky-mouse that control.

There is hidden engineer menus… need i say more… these help align the print heads…
but u better of ringing someone who can help

Hi Dave and David thanks for your help, I’m gna give it a shot.
I think u may be right it had a head crash and may have moved .

I’ve changed that thick thin many times
Makes no difference. How do I get into the hidden engineer menu?

Looks like you need to soak the heads for a bit (!) to clear the blocked nozzles….

Unfortunately, that is likely to be a head. How old is the machine? We’ve had ours for
nearly 8 years, and it’s still going strong, so definitely not rubbish. They do need
    looking after though….

Oh dear, that’s really not looking too healthy.

Head 1 has had a knock (K/M) and has damaged the surface of the head.
Head 2 has major deflections (C/Y) and will really struggle to print solids.
Head 3….. where are you light colours!?

Error 07 is that head 1 right side (M) has an electrical fault. Either the head itself, maybe cable, but could also be slider or mainboard, or combination of any of the above. Did you discharge the printer correctly? Did one of the head cable get moved or removed while there was still power in it?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but that is going to need some money spending on it, and it won’t be hundreds I’m afraid.
