I’ve also noticed a steady climb in the costing of their istock images over the past year or two… can’t say i am surprised after Getty Images bought them out for $50 million dollars then very soon followed by Hellman & Friedman buying getty Images for $2.4 billion… serious dosh or what? 😕

I think a good one is http://www.fotolia.com they have a better method of indexing and are very selective on the type and quality of the images listed.

Just on Istock, I was reading in a marketing magazine the other day that they write out $1.1mil in royalty payments every week.

That is a darn lot of money…. No wonder Getty Images wanted some of the action….

As a photographer that contributes to Istock and Dreamstimes… I find the rejection criteria is becoming a bit anal. Istock especially has developed this elitist attitude that I find down right annoying.

Interestingly Istock have the highest rejection rates, followed closely by Fotolia from what I read. Both have been accused of being elitist.

Istock have rejected several of my pic based on issues that are clearly reproduced and obvious in the regular contributors.

I contribute to Jetphotos too. They are also full of themselves. I was standing beside a regular contributor, less than 1 foot to his right. We photographed the same plane at the same time.

My photo got rejected because ‘lighting at brisbane airport is not suited to morning photography’ yet his photo was also submitted and accepted.

Like all these situations, cronyism with the inspection staff is always going to be an issue unfortunately.
