  • Is this laminator any good ? Problems !

Just purchased a Excelam Cold Q1400 laminator as part of a package and we are having loads of trouble.

The film will not stay tight across the rollers and bunches up or ripples resulting in creases. There are 2 tension knobs which seem to do very little and the instruction manual is hopeless.

New to laminating so dont really know what to expect from the machine.

Laminators are often more difficult to use than printers , you HAVE to get some training , phone the agents or ask whoever supplied it to you to come round. AFAIK that laminator is made by GMP , we have the Excellmaster 1600 which is a fantastic machine , we have NEVER had a mishap or bad result with ours in almost 2 years.

I have a GMP laminator, when I first got it I changed to front lower roller after it got cut with knife. I undid the internal factory set tensioners that you are not meant to do, the machine was impossible, sometimes it would not laminate without creasing other days 2 meters then crease.
I had the engineer out from GMP who made it better, but I think he felt guilty as he was putting alot of film through to set it correctly. In the end I took it back to the same guy Graham I think at GMP in Banbury, picked it up after a week and now is great I just throw the media at the machine and it just laminates always flat and never creases.
I would speak to GMP as these machines are good and not to hard to master if set up correctly.

    Regards

    Russell.
