  • Is there a way to save work so document saves as version5?

Posted by Jaclyn on 18 October 2007 at 18:48

We are using Sign Lab 7 while our screen printer is using Sign Lab 5. The screen printer is having issues opening our version 7.

Is there a way to save down so our document saves as version 5?

There is no way to directly open a v7 file in v5.

Use export/import as Nick says, or get them to upgrade.

Any firm providing a service to the trade should be keeping up with the versions of prime software they use.

Perhaps it’s not their prime software.

More to the point Cadlink should have provided a backward Save option just like Adobe and Corel do.

Although it doesn’t work 100% of the time, try using the command simplify object before saving. It often will work,

As Peter has already said – Why doesn’t Signlab allow you to save down? – This is a fairly obvious feature that should be available in software as expensive as Signlab.

Once more, other (much cheaper – yet in many ways superior) desktop publishing/sign design programs such as Corel and Adobe appear to have the edge over "so called" dedicated sign software 😕

    Hi all,

    • SignLab files are backwards compatible to a certain extent.
    • A SignLab e61 user will be able to open a CDL file from a newer version of SignLab.
    • Likewise possible for an e60 user, though they need to apply a specific patch by contacting CADlink Tech Support.
    • For SignLab 5 and 4.95 (i.e., SignLab for Windows 95), there is a technical limitation that prevents opening of newer CDL versions.
    • None of this was meant to be a hassle.

For that SignLab 5 screenprint user, it may be worthwhile for them to inspect the screen printing features that are in latest SignLab.

    Regards,

    Rod at CADlink
