There is a marina nearby and Im thinking of targeting them for some vinyl work. Just so I can prepare a little is there a specific vinyl for boats? Anyone got any experience of fitting to boats, if so is there anything I need to consider before talking to these people?

    splish splash.

yeh, tell them to get it out the water first 😆

use oracal 751 mate.. ive used it on several boats and never had a problem.

any cast will do the trick though. depends i guess if the design is sitting in the water most of the time..

They don’t need to be out of the water but it does help!

Striping is a real pig, but give it a go!

Boat names are a great little earner.
You might want to offer a deal for the whole lot i.e 2 X Bow boat names, 1 x transom, 1 home port and SSR no.

remember these people who have boats have money so don’t sell yourself short!

Well as long as your not doing a water line stripe, you should be ok – it’s just a case of hanging over the side 😆

All the comments above are on the button, I like to add, when Im pitching it to the Marina, that your vinyl is “Tested at Mid Tide, for 1 year, with no effect and conforms to BS 5609:1986”.

Its a great little line thats on most Cast / Polymeric / Monomeric vinyl swatches, and the sea dogs love it 🙂

Rob are you saying that you should use cast vinyl for boats?

I have used 751 before but the spec on Mactac 9800 shows that it is ok too, so I was going to use that.

Still waiting to find out if anyone has heard of vinyl for the rubber(?) buoys, I was told it was called Solfab(?)

Can anyone shed some light on the matter

    Cheers

I seem to recall 3M have the most to do with Marine, they may have a vinyl, or maybe that stuff that fuses to plastics, used to use it on Curtain Siders.

(or a paint mask and spray ?)

I can lend you some snorkling gear Liam. I’d recommend not trying to apply the vinyl dry, you could be under there all day 😉 😆 😆 😉

Im practising holding my breath, but the snorkling stuff would be better. I might wait till the winter when the lake has frozen over, slip slide about. Im sure thats a safer option as my swimming isnt too hot. (drown)
