    Hiya,

Got a client (the local council) who I’ve just built a room for to house their mainframe computer and all the do dads and what nots.

The IT man has an office off this other room with a clear glass window into it, this is good.

The staff kitchen and the wizzbang coputyer room are also divided by a big s.o.b window. I was told to build it. They wanted it. I built it.

Now they have decided in the ultimate wisdom of local councils that they don’t want to see into the ‘blinking light’ room and more to the point the IT man (who lets’s face it – rarely comes out into daylight anyway) does not want to see the herd grazing while he polishes his USB ports. 😉

SO, does anyone know if there is a beast such as a one way mirror except in vinyl form.

I know I can get perforated / printable stuff from Oracle for $100/m2 but that a bit steep for not quite the right thing.

    Any clues?

    Thanks in advance.

Maybe I should just paint the window black and then do a line drawing with a pointy thing? 😕

Ring a window tinter simon. They would have a better idea I am sure.

You could try ringing Glenn Crotty @ Jimboomba on 4622 7312. He is a sign guy that used to do tinting. Tell him I told you to call, and that you are a mate of mine. If he can point you in the right direction, I am sure he will.

    Cheers

I’m not quite sure what you are trying to do here but just remember that there is no such thing as a one way mirror!

What is commonly called mirror film actually transmits light equally well in both directions and only works when, as in vehicle applications, the van is darker inside than it is outside. I have my office window done in it and during daylight hours I can see out but no-one can see in whereas at night with the office lights on the reverse applies.

You should look at the site, see which side is the brighter, and make sure that the visibility is in the direction that the customer wants.

    Alan,
Thanks for the thought mate but…”Sorry, but only users granted special access can read topics in this forum.”

    Dave,
    😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

    John,
I understand the theory and practice behind what you say, thanks. Common room/kitchen area is much brighter than computer room. IT man wants to not be seen by tea drinking people. Tea drinking people don’t want to be distracted by blinking red lights and IT man! 😕

    Shane,
Thanks for the contact. This is infact what I suggested they do. They had someone do some office tinting before and so they are ringing them. However if they have no joy I’ll ring your guy. A usefull contact for me anyway. Ta. 😀

Simon, couldn’t you just use a frosted vinyl? All you need to do is obscure the window a bit but still allow natural sunlight in. There is a wide range of films available and a viriety of colours.

    Martin,

Thanks for your reply, and the reminder. I think initially this is what I had in mind to suggest to them and consequently completely forgot ! DOH.

The client got fixated on this one way mirror thingy and my brain followed suit.

Thanks. I’ll give him a bell today and throw it up the flagpole. 😀
