is there a book to teach me hand-lettering?
Posted by R Ferguson on 4 June 2007 at 10:23Hello,
I currently run a small sign and digital print business and have seen some of the projects you talented people can do!
I dont know if is it possible, but is there a video or book that would show me he basics of hand lettering?
I am sure that it must be better to learn from someone who has experience but I am unaware of any local to me.
Thanks
Robert Ferguson

Robert, you could try your local college, a lot of them still run courses and although some of it is aimed at more modern techniques there is still a lot of traditional content.

Thanks for the suggestions, I have ordered the book and will look into night classes.
The only problem will be trying to find the time! so much going on at the moment.

I got that book from Amazon last week. It’s very good!! Thanks for the tip. I had been looking for books on the subject for a while but could not find anything.
Thank you!!!!! 😀 -
If anyone wants to get into traditional gilding on glass they should definitely get hold of a copy of Gold Leaf Techniques by Raymond Leblanc.
It’s my bible! -
William Sutherland wrote a book a while ago (1889!) The art & craft of signwriting. Everyone who does hand lettering should get a copy, its excellent! 😎
