  • Is it possible to get a thicker red vinyl?

Posted by Chris Whitehead on 20 July 2006 at 13:20

Just wondered if anyone could help me here, i recently made some vinyls up for my friends car, bacl with red over the top, but you can see the black through the red.

Is it possible to get a thicker red vinyl? and any idea’s of where is best to get it from?

also anyone got any ideas where can supply dark blue banner material. Im only finding mid blue’s…

    thanks in advance..

It’s not necessarily a case of thicker vinyl; more that some are more opaque than others. I’ve never spent much time worrying about it, I just try to overlay the black when possible, instead of the other way round.

What was the vinyl that you used?

Get samples and swatches from some proper vinyl manufacturers. I don’t even know who makes Selectstore’s vinyl, and it isn’t even particularly cheap.

Try Oracal (from Europoint), Mactac (from Amari and others). Like I said, ask for samples and see what you think. Some vinyls – even decent ones – do darken slightly when applied over black so you need to try a few out.
