Is it possible to bypass the chips on the Mimaki JV3?
Posted by Karl Williams on 11 February 2008 at 22:27Is it possible to bypass the chips on the Mimaki JV3. Once again I have 2 blacks that are nearly full but because they have expired don’t show up on the software or the printer.

Karl, why do you buy carts that are out of date?
or why do you keep them so long without using them?the shelf life is usually at least a year, and I seem to recall your mimaki is only about a year old…

Peter, I bought a few sets last September. 2 magentas had a short expiry date on them as well as 2 black. Lets be right checking the dates on them isn’t the first thing you do. The magenta expired Nov’07 and the black came up with the message a few days ago. They are originals before you ask and came from an authorised dealer. I have a job to go out tomorrow so really ordering more isn’t a problem it’s just time.
Do you know how to bypass the chip Peter? -
cant help with bypassing Karl, but I only order in when nearing the end of the carts that I am running, I cant get any deals for ordering in bulk quantities, so just order when and if, I do check the use by dates though.
Perhaps its not a good idea to use them anyway, if they are out of date.
perhaps they do "go off" and may harm your printer/and or warranty.so in all maybe not a good idea asking how to use them on a public forum? Maybe better to see if your supplier can give you a partial credit..

Hi Karl,
While I agree the argument for only ordering what you need I too have some black carts which are 50% just because I’m not printing that colour enough.
I buy the inks typically by the box and get a complete set. Not any more.
Its just too expensive. Bulk ink systems might be the way forward, Only if your warranty is over.
Hey ho, I’m sure one day they’ll listen and change the way the inks are time limited, right next to the day when fuel gets below 60p a litre 😕
Cheers
Adam
