  • Is flock good enough for retail quality Ts and sweatshirts?

I’ve just realised that our cutter came with a couple of rolls of flock and if it works, it could be the ideal solution for our current requirement of being able to easily and quickly brand clothing 🙂

The thing is, whilst I’m sure it’s good enough for making fun Tshirts for special occasions and such. I’m looking for a product I can sell and not feel concerned about getting a load of hassle in a month’s time when everything’s falling apart in the wash…..
I’m happy to buy a new product rather than use our crappy free rolls if I can get a top quality solution that way, but will I get a retail quality product from something I can iron on at home?
I’m looking to do single colour onto Tshirts and sweatshirts.

oh yeah, and the rolls I have seem to have a clear protective layer on them, do I remove that before cutting? before ironing? afterwards?

    Thanks in advance,
    James

Paul from mackrelbus design will probably be able to help you out with this one.
I forget where he gets his garment film from but it’s the biz.
    Paul?
    Are you out there???
    Cheers

    James,

I made myself a couple of T shirts about eight years ago. They are about ready for tossing out now, not because of any problem with the flock, but rather because the shirts themselves are showing their age.

I can only conclude that there is nothing wrong with the theory but, of course, you need a good quality flock and, even more importantly, it must be applied properly. Do that and you won’t have any problems.

    The economics are another matter.

Victory do a good range of films which weed very easily … easier than some we have tried. Grafityp also do the marking films (advert on homepage of here).

The plastic carrier is removed after pressing …… remember to mirror cut your required design …. remember that bit …. you will probably have a few occassions where you will straight cut it and then in the bin it goes :lol1:

Ideally you need a heat press in my opinion ….. due to the pressure that is required to apply the marking film properly … although saying that I know a few peeps here do sometimes use an iron for the odd item?

As John Childs said …. as long as its applied properly it will probably outlast the top …. it has on some of our own work tops.

I know there have been a few discussions about garment printing so it might be worth doing a search aswell (top of the page)?

    😀
