Morning Matt. 🙂
From our experience I don’t think Avery 800 would be up to it.
For serious compound curves like mirrors etc, I would even worry about Avery 900 and would probably prefer to use a proper wrapping material.
-
i agree with John… 900 is fine, our white van is black because of 900.

Matt
as the other learned gents have said.
but i would have thought it is up to you, not the customer which vinyl is up for the job?Peter

Hi Peter!
Unfortunately, as a contract fitter I can only advise which material to use, as the customer usually has the vinyl already! I’ve just done a full wrap in Avery 800 and had a few problems with glue separating from vinyl, snapping and too aggressive when applied with heat! I’ve never had a problem before with 99% of materials!
Thanks for the advice

Sorry Matt, didnt realise the circumstances, Even so, would it not be risky for you fitting an unsuitable? material, in the event of it failing after a short time (OK dont tell me its a temporay job, yes) 😀

No peter, its a fleet of 200 plus vehicles, on for 18 months! 🙁
-
We have used 800 before and it is a real pain to work with. One thing we noticed about it is that is snaps really easily when the right room temperature is not achieved. Also the conformability of it is not great. You will get creases and bubbles with 800, for a few dollars more they should have went for the 900 or another brand bubble free to speed up installation which would probably have cut down your labour cost aswell.
If its 200 vehicles it must be done properly because if it stuffs up in a couple of months time who will be at fault?
-
If the 800 fails, and I think it will, you know that you are going to get the blame Matt.
Protect yourself. Signed disclaimer.
-
agreed… u need to now rethink this before u do it mate
-
definitely a disclaimer…
i would also contact the company that is supplying the graphics and ask why this has been used etc
you will need to separate yourself as much as possible from any problems arising from the job further down the line.
it maybe a case that you get a list of all the registrations on paper and get a signature after each and every vehicle that its inspected and installed correctly. failings after that is not necessarily you problem if the vinyl pulls out from the recesses due to the wrong material used for the job… -
Thanks for all the feedback! I’ve been persuaded to do another sample vehicle with 900 and although I was trained using this vinyl I’m still not convinced in its last the time needed! I’m pushing for VWS or Macfleet as we speak!
Thanks again all who replied…Matt

Hi Guys ! Believe it or not I was having this exact conversation with an Avery representative and he advised me of one installer who was able to pull off a wrap in Avery 700 series !! I couldn’t believe it. As mentioned previously it mainly comes down to experience in vehicle wraps and knowing the conforming ability of the material you work with
-
Hi Theo!
Your right! I’ve wrapped using 5-7 year calendered vinyl! Its just what it looks like the morning after is the concern!

I have seen a full wrap on a new subaru impreza with 700 series and it was fine. Never really done a great deal with 800, but I have wrapped a car with 900 and it wasn’t too bad to use. Much easier than 970 oracal and it certainly came off easier (could be due to the oracal being metallic though).
-
Oracal and I do not mix, I can not work with that vinyl to save my life
-
I like 651 for lettering etc. The metallics have some lovely colours.
The air release wrap is ok too if you don’t ask it to do much. I don’t use it for vehicles though now after a few mishaps. Avery FTW! -
we have a black van with avery 900 on it which we did about 6 months ago…. no problems at all 😛
