I’ve had a grenadier 3 years now and still running great.
looked at upgrading to the new wider ones but think we may hold out and go for a UV flatbed. would still recommend them…

you are probably using troop so cant tell you. but the fact that you cant do it is poor your supplier should have demonstrated it.

it should be easy but different rips Handel it slightly differently

i cant explain the process as i dont operate our machine enough, andrew does it on a daily basis… seems easy done.
when you print you have to select the choice of printing registration marks.
once printed you remove and laminate. when you reload you have to select for the machine to "detect" these registration marks which the machine does itself… takes a few seconds…
it will then go ahead and cut your "cut-path" which you will have to have created.

the problem maybe that you have the latest version of troop and that doesnt come with the option to cut. (used to in earlier troop packages)
anyway, there is a work around if you have signlab or corel etc

sorry i cant be more help on the matter.

    cheers guys for helping

When g2 was first installed he did show us how to do it and it did work – but because i haven’t used the print cut since march i had forgot – after lengthy conversation with supplier he couldn`t remember how he got this to work as both went through manual together – we couldn’t get it to work over the phone- i use troop 6.1

As with signlab 7.1 and the g2 – even cadlink cant get this working together – after downloading patches and drivers still to no avail

As always its finding time to sort these problems out over the phone

I am looking to add another printer, to run along side my roland soljet 2.

Just wondering what sort of speeds the G2 offers. The brochure says upto 41 m2. I know they inflate these times, when I bought the roland the brochure stated 28m2. I currently get about four to eight square metres an hour

On colorip I usually print @
    360 x 720dpi
    4 or 8 pass
    2 overprint.

I dont know how the rip on the G2 differs but that is about mid quality more ink.

I would be grateful for your reply.

    Cheers Stephen

Colin – Most of the process is carried out in the RIP. You need to work out how to re-align the print on the printer after laminating. With the Grenadier, you manually align the first point, press Base Point, then press Auto Align, and provided it’s in straight, the printer does the rest.

As for the software end, you need to disable the cutter in the profile – go to Edit-> Properties-> Cutter tab and uncheck the ‘enable cutter’ box.
Then make sure ‘Cutting registration marks’ is checked on the main Print unit setup box (Grenadier only works with Generated by Printer).

When you action the print, there will also be a matching job number appear in the Cut tab of the main interface, which you can then process and it appears in unit 2 (on our setup anyway). This is the corresponding cutpaths from your original file/layout.

Just bear in mind that you need to allow room either side of the print for the registration marks (about 25mm should do) so the max print width is reduced, and when cutting off the print to allow about 75-100mm at the back end so that it rolls properly. Also, don’t try and feed through sheets that are too long, as problems can occur when the print hits the floor etc.

That’s how you do it on the Grenadier anyway. G2 I’d imagine would be fairly similar in the constraints, but may be a bit different when you’re re-aligning the print
