  • is 851 the best vinyl for sprinter recesses?

i’ve got a sprinter to do in the next couple of weeks, i’m just working on the layout now. i’m using an existing logo, and if i try to alter the layout to avoid (as best as poss) the recesses, it looks naff, i’m going to have to go over a couple of corners of the recess for sure,

i normally use 651 and 751 for most of my work, but am considering oracle 851 for this job, is this the way to go ?

my main concern is the previous posts mentioning the silcone in the recesses, this van is a 2001 lwb, will the recesses still be a problem with a 6yr old van ?

    thanks.

I had considered that Rob, as you’ve suggested it, i might as well go with that, it’ll keep the price nicer for the customer too!

    thanks.

yep robs on the button, but tell the customer what you are going to do and why if you have to.

the one customer i did not tell was expecting a stretch job smooth no joins, but 12 mts on hes happy cos its still looking good.

thanks Chris, I did mention the potential for problems with the recesses when i went to see the job, I’ll definitely mention it though, i’m sure he’ll be fine with it.

    thanks.

    Hi all
fitted a sprinter a few weeks back and cut into the recesses I then had some 10mm strips I had cut on the plotter to cover the joint, you would never have seen them only on close inspection and I know the jobs not coming back, the van was from a accident repair job and I had the idea from the other side of the vehicle which had been fitted in the same way.

just a thought, but when overlapping after cutting, what do you lot o to ensure no water can get under ?

i normally use plenty of heat and a felt squeegee to try and fill the tiny gap, does anyone do anything different ?

Hugh when I did this i cut the vinyl in the corners and placed the 10mm stripe over the cut the complete width of the vinyl in the recesses, you could if you wanted apply some seal-it over the overlap but I would think it would be fine
