ink getting suck-up
Posted by Marek on 1 December 2005 at 05:41Hi to all,
wonder if somebody have this problem with Roland sc-500?
when I install full cartage next to empty one’s, ink is getting suck- up
to the one’s next to it.
yesterday I have put in light magenta and today I have yellow and light cyan contaminated.
The only fix I know is to print those colours till they clean themself.

Hi
had a similar problem with my RockHopper, Its to do with the capping station mine was under warranty at the time so was replaced. Some points to check check drain pipes havent become blocked, seals are good and foam is intact. Do you have indiviual colour heads or a tricolor & single black.Kev

I have 6 colours and separated caping station in two
one on right is lc,lm,ye
This is the one giving me trouble -
I have the same problem and it seems to be when one cart is nearly empty and has no pressure in it and therefore ink from other fuller carts is pushed back up the tube. It’s a problem that has no answer that I can see, only to change the nearly empty cart, and that seems just as much a waste as cleaning the pipes. 👿

Check the sponges in your capping stations. If the sponges are swollen and touching the heads when parked it can cause a couple things to happen.
1. Suck ink up through the head and contaminate the dampers.
2. Suck ink from the cart and push it all the way to the drain bottle.
Neather of these are fun…
Your best bet is to either get new capping stations (or cap tops), or you can just remove the sponge and replace it with lint free cloth. The only purpose of the sponge is to keep ink from splashing back up onto the head.

the JV3 has same concept, the head has two dampers and that feeds straight to the carts, we had a similar issue and found that our pumps were not pumping well enough. I think the SC500 is the versacamm so it is a similar machine.
Also check all sealing of the head to the cappnig station, if head is dirty (underside) air can get in.
You got to think of two upstairs water tanks coming down and joined together, if one has very little water in it, it will find an easy pressure back to it so then you get contaimination.
If one cart is full and the other low, then that can cause a balance issue, can cause a problem like that but normally nothing to worry about, just keep printing.
Do you spend a lot of time ‘ink filling/head cleaning’ to get that nozzle set working?
