Impact Vehicle Older Outlines
Posted by Micheal Donnellan on 26 February 2007 at 15:08Finally got the Impact Vehicle Outlines and was rather disappointed with them.:( While is handy and has plenty to work with it came across as fairly American with some useless outlines among them. The American ambulances didn’t exactly inspire confidence in the disk either.
My biggest complaint is its too new. 😮 Odd I know know but not many pre-2000 cars which is limiting and virtually no "old" model cars. by this I mean the square looking cars and vans.
Aside from the gripes the disk is ok, and will admit is primarily aimed at commercial vehicles. but still the lack of old vehicles. otherwise im happy one I figured out its 2000% and not 20000% scale.
(Rob the spell check is major annoying 👿 )

i only use the outlines if i can’t get to see the vehicle,
when i see the vehicle, i take photo’s from various angles, and take a few measurements, scale up the vehicle in corel and work away,
if i don’t have the outlines, i tend to ask the customer for a side on photo, hi a res as poss, and a couple of measurements, which once again let me scale the pic with no probs,
mine is an old version of the impact disc (well i think it was impacts), 2003 or 2004 i think, got given it but the disc crashes after nissan !! a new one is defo on the cards though.
as far as the disc scale goes, i’m certain that they’re 100% scale, i’ve never yet got to a job to find 1/2 scale graphics or owt !

Am definitely more used to working with photos and measuring tape. Photo +design printed out usually helps get idea across to customer. Its just outlines seemed the more "professional" way of doing it. so I bought into the idea and the disc.

The American Ambulances are on there as somebody provided us some artwork & they wanted them. There are only a few, we put them on the disk as somebody else "may" need them. Can’t see having a disk with something on there as a negative point? there are many Vans, Cars, Trucks etc you you may well never use. There is a Ferrari 430 on there, I am sure 99.9% of Sign Makers will ever get to sticker one up, we put it on the disk anyway as somebody has so maybe somebody else will need it too.
Really can’t see how it come across as American? all the cars are cars that are found on the UK roads. Look at MR Clipart if you want to see American.
We have been doing the disk since 1995. It was purely for commercial vehicles back then. We now add cars as we are asked for them. There are currently around 300. Many more UK cars than you will find on the Ingram/MR Clip Art disk.
Finding artwork for old cars is virtually impossible. I don’t think you will find outlines for these available on any disk.
If there is anything specific you need just ask as we may be able to get something. That is exactly how we have come to have thing such as a Fiat 500, Old Beetle, Mk 2 Escort etc on the disk.

if you go into your profile at the top of the page you can uncheck the spell check box and problem solved. The guy on the boards who designs the impact outlines may be able to help his name eludes me at the moment but i am sure someone on the boards will give you his contact details
-
…btw Michael, the original disk we sent came back this morning. It had been removed from the Jiffy Bag & ruined. It had a sticker on to say the address was incomplete, yet it had exactly the same address as the one you emailed to us. Only the name was different.

Well I am most impressed with the Impact outlines, and use them almost daily to give customers designs. They are always impressed with the ‘professionalism’ that the outlines give.
I agree that there are mostly newer models on there, but how large would the handbook be if Brian were to include every model from the year dot? I am sure that older disks are available, maybe Brian himself would be able to tell you.
I first bought the MR Car ‘n Truck outline disk, which doesn’t have a printed brochure, and is a real pain, both to find the correct vehicle first, and then needs re-scaling (I use Impact direct, scaled already). I also found the MR measurements were way out, not just an inch or two. The only good thing is, that it does have some older vehicles on it, so gets an airing very occasionally.

quick reply…
we have used impacts software for as long as i can remember. we do thousands of vehicles each year. seldom do we measure a job unless we need specific sizes… the disk is always used.
that’s not to say the disk is 100% accurate, it isn’t… simply because you cannot account for slopes, recesses and bends on a front on visual only.
(hope that made sense)
you can never have too many options as has been said… if a vehicle isn’t on your disk you can normally request it if it is available for up to 12 months after purchase. when you look at the other sources available, i think you will find the impact one the best there is.spell check? just turn it off if you don’t need it mate. click the box and that’s it. 😉

hiya Brian,
I was wondering what happened to the original disk, different name I don’t get. excepting I put Michael G donnellan the second time rather than Just Micheal Donnellan. more like useless postemen
You have mk2 escort outline? only mk1 is on disk.Rob
the thing that was annoying with was its habit when i wrote the first post was joining the texttogethter and still leaving the incorrect spellindg. -
hi Michael, its because it is checking as you type.. some times if the post is pretty long, you type fast, or if you are hitting return to change line repeatedly, it can cause this.
as i said though, one click turns it off and back on… 😀

I use the Impact outlines on a daily basis and find them a very usefull tool.
The biggest bug bear I used to have was that they did not do many Rover outlines and at the time I was doing a lot of Rovers for a local main dealer. Since the big bang they have become Renault dealers and the Impact disc is great for that.
I have tried all the others and Impact is the best by far but lets be honest you can never please all of the people all of the time but it would be a lot harder if there was no one doing outlines so I feel that for the price they are a great tool.
Cheers

Is this the shape you are after Michael? have a front & back view too so will be able to produce an outline for it. We have lots of artwork for stuff we don’t have. Probably enough to keep me busy for the next 10 years 😮 :lol1:
Computers as we know them wern’t invented in 1975, let alone an outline disk to go on them. Artwork is a bit sketchy as well, would imagine only draftsmens drawings were about in those days.
Don’t see anything wrong with the spell chucker 😀

I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect the discs to have lots of old cars on them. For the money, I think the Impact disc is the best. What would make it even better is some sort of password protected website for downloading the updates as I think it is a bit silly having to email for a particular vehicle.
-
Good point mate, another idea might be to allow downloads per outline, along the istock idea. I for one would find this useful. ie: 1 credit per outline
just my tuppence worth.
graeme -
OK please don’t take this the wrong way !!!
I use Impacts disks and with out them i would be lost. I have found them to be very accurate and if and when a new vehicle comes out then Brian is on the ball at getting the new outline finished very quickly
I myself don’t get vehicles to sign more than 2/3 years old and how many mk2 escorts are out there that need signs on them, only old stock cars
I have been using the disk for the last 4 years and have never been stuck
i think a call to Brian would have sorted this out and did not need to be posted here in full view. Always give your supplier a call before a post like thatRich

graemebut how much value can you put on one outline, when there is hundreds of outlines on the disk?
£1, £5, £10 or more?
remember a single outline can be used countless times…. would a single SWB sprinter be worth £10? ide say yes…. but then you will need the mwb and the lwb eventually… another £20? why not? to be honest that is very reasonable in my opinion… but why not just buy the whole disk for £90 or there about?

Impact, AKA brian deserves all the acclaim and recomendations that he gets. I always use the outlines, and they save me a hell of a lot of time.
I have better things to do than photo a potential clients van/car/lorry, and I am sure they are better pleased, if they dont need to make the vehicle available twice, once for pictures and another for signage.Brian updates his catalogue on a rolling basis,
Micheal, I cant really see what your problem is? If you want to sign older vehicles, then really they should be painted as they were originally.I want go into why people copy it and sell it on ebay,
Thats another story.
Peter

I remember the days before Impact, and I don’t wanna go back there.
That’s why I get annoyed when I see people asking for, and sometimes getting, outlines on here. I want Brian to be profitable so he keeps on providing what, to me, is a very valuable resource.
As for disc content, while sometimes useful, the market for car outlines must be miniscule compared to that for vans.

graemeNO NO & NO!
BAD BAD Idea
disks cost close enough to 200 as it is without paying even more. lousy exchange rate. Ain’t all glad you don’t live in the most expensive ripooff country in Europe.Brian do not listen to smedia.
The disks are going to be major handy and aside from my complaining about one or two points are brilliant. the american complaint came from seeing american ambulances and enzo and thinking its full of useless outlines I will never need. All I can say is major thanks for making the disk in the first place and make more outlines. Keep the "old" on it as its obvious the disk can store tones more (if you have them). -
We don’t ever take vehicle off Michael, I emailed the Mk2 Escort last night, did you get it? you paid £99 which should be less than 50 euros, where does the 200 come from? 😮
Setting up a web site where you can download single outlines would cost a fortune. A long while ago we looked into it. You can do it on MR Clipart site. I think it costs about £10 each, so you can’t get much for less than £100.
-
Brian, must be to early for you in the morning, you got it the wrong way round !!! £99 is about 148 euros
-
Sorry Martin missed the "1" meant 150, a bit different than 200 😎
-
Thats OK Brian, thought it must have been something like that :lol1:
What about delivery? That would have put the price up a little, still short of 200 but everyone rounds figures up not down !!
-
We don’t charge for delivery, Michael paid £99 which translates to 148 ish euros according to xe.com. Not VAT either as he is in the Republic of Ireland & VAT registered 🙂

He obviously told the wife ‘to keep the change! 😀 😀 😀 Happens all the time 🙁 🙁
