im planning on changing vinyl what do you think of mactac?
Posted by Derek Hunter on 20 April 2006 at 21:23Hey Guys
was just wondering if many of you have any experience with Mactack vinyl, any pro`s and cons would be great.

I rate Mactac vinyl highly. The 9800 range is excellent. Thay have also just released some new colours into the 8300 range (which is also a very good material): some nice pastel shades etc.

And as for the Macsoft banner vinyl, I personally don’t think there is a better brand on the market, tried most of them and always come back to Macsoft.

I wouldn’t take it as a gift! 😉
I use Gerber or Calon II, and I also like both the intermediate & HP Oracal.

ok great only 1 negative thanks for the comments, ive just bought 15 meters for now just to play with, dont want to fit it and end up going back because its peeling :lol1:

I just don’t like it because it is hard to work with (for me)
too brittle to weed well.
Never had any faliures in the one month that I used it! :lol1:
Nobody else likes it around here either, and my supplier no longer carries MacTac.
I do like their felt squeegees tho.
Another vinyl I steer clear of now is any form of Avery.

Hi,
We use Mac Tac 9800 for nearly everything.. Have even started using their digital range and never had a problem…I guess using vinyl is a personal thing as I just can not get on with Oracle which a lot of people on here like.

i used mactac 9800 and also macsoft for banners for years.
like Chris, i think i have yet to find a "banner" vinyl that is as soft yet sticks like s*^* to a blanket. macsoft is very good on banners, but on the flip side. if you fit dry you might find it is a bit too tacky for your liking. (but in my book that’s a good thing) when i say too tacky i don’t mean unworkable. i just mean unless the banner is properly clamped down, it will lift etc while working with it.
9800 as i said was my weapon of choice for many years. it did everything i needed it for, however, when i was introduced to oracal 751 i found the oracal could "stretch" that bit further when NOT heated. it also held its colour better when stretched. when you first switch from mactac to oracal, things seem very similar, but when using oracal and switching bck now and again you do see noticeable differences like i mention above.at the end of the day its a self preference… use what works better for you and lets you sleep at night. cost should come last.

Mac 9800 weeds & applies like a dream, 8300 is OK weeding & applies very well. The 9800 is excellent for fairly small text, I frequently cut 5mm upper & lower case with punctuation, I can weed large sections perfectly by just pulling & rarely lose so much as a full stop or ‘i’ dot (there is a name for it but I can’t remember). I can’t do that with any other vinyl including Oracal 751C which is too thin, flexible & sticky, or Ritrama 400 which it too thick. Mactac vinyls are REALLY nice to work with, again personal preference.
