    Hi Guys,

Question for anyone using Roland VersaWorks with Adobe Illustrator…

I use AI to design sometimes some intricate logos and signs. Occasionally some of the interanal type has drop shadows, however never extending off the borders of the background panel.

VersaWorks user manual says do not use effects (like transparency, dropshadows.etc.) but many of my designs do use these effects. If I do the usual and add a new object to my design, give it null fill and a CutContour spot colour stroke, it all looks fine in AI, save as EPS and send to VersaWorks and it does not reckognise the cut.

however, if I export it to photoshop, save as jpg, and re-open in illustrator, then paste my CutContour object in front of it – voila! (then send as .EPS to versaworks) it works fine. However this is a lengthy process.

Anyone else have a better way of doing this?

    thanks

Annoying these things……however in ai you could still rasterise [Object] or you could still save as a jpg in ai without going to photoshop…..although this is not an ideal solution…….

the filters work very different to saving as ajpg. 😀

    Hello there,
Try this :Select your all except your cut-line in Illustrator and group. Now select your cutline and copy+paste in the back (ctrl+c then ctrl+b)
Now select the back cutline and the group of your design and make clipping mask (ctrl+7) That usually works for me an extra step you might need is to put the cut line on a separate layer.
    Hope this helps
