  • Illumintated Window Displays advise please?

    Hi All

Besides Edgelit signs (as they are not big enough) my customer is looking for something to full the window so you don’t see the edges of the display. The window is 1200mm wide by 2000mm deep. Edge lit would be perfect but I need to find out if there is any other acrylic system similar to edge lit that I can get in this size. It is only for some basic text but customer wants it illuminated if possible.

    Any ideas or suggestions?

    Cheers

    Hi Warren

What about putting some white translucent vinyl text on the inside of the window and aiming a spotlight at the text from inside (above) the shop.

This looks amazing at night time ans is pretty inexpensive to achieve. You could even use a colour changing LED spotlight for added effect and extra attention.

You can get edgelit extrusions in that size warren.
Give applelec a ring and speak to Paul Stothers, hes in charge of production.
wont be cheap though, and at a 2m high you will need to light from the bottom also, but applelec definetely do a 1200mm extrusion with the leds already vhb taped into it.

    Hi guys

I looked in to this and can’t remember which company I spoke to but they told me that edge lit would not work at that size and maximum is about 1500mm. This was top and bottom lit and was told the light will not travel far enough on a 2m sheet to illuminate the middle efficiently.

Even at the price for a 1500mm the customer poo’ed his pants and changed his mind :lol1:

The spot light idea seems like a good one though.

    Thanks for the help all.

    Cheers

if you could find a panatrim type frame that would take 10mm or possibly 8mm acrylic you could assemble the leds in there yourself, and light it all the way round, this would give you enough light, especially if you didnt flame polish the edges, the opaque sides will bounce the light back into the sign.
Edge lit signs CAN be expensive but they dont HAVE to be.
There is a way round everything and always a solution.
If you can hide them cold cathodes would also do and would be cheaper than LEDS, its a bit of soldering and youd have to have an extrusion or a frame for them obviously but its doable.
I have a customer now who wants a 3 metre long by 1 metre high balcony front made from acrylic and edge lit, I told him how much its likely to cost, seeingas it will have to be bent also and he started to change his mind too as there is only one place that can bend 3m sheets in one continuous curve.
Hopefully the B&B will have a god summer and Ill get that one.
