if my cpu is saying 100% is this slowing my computer down?
Now i’m no wizard on the computer but am i right in thinking that if my cpu is saying 100% this will slow my computer down?
Is there a way to resolve this without down loading some internet program?

Means your doing something or your computer is doing something ‘taxing’. Perhaps you need to take a break from the computer

IS it running noticeably slow though? 100% peaks or always up there?
…if it ain’t broken…don’t fix it.
Other wise it’s a CTRL / ALT / DEL and see what’s running in the background like MSN, scanner, printer or camera pre-loaded doo-dads, MS Office…
There are a variety of GOOD downloadable products, my favourite being ‘Advanced Uninstaller’…does a load of powerful cleaning & tweaking at no risk (DON’T run the ‘remove duplicate files!!!!) and can disable or delete ‘start-up’ programs.

Just went through a pitstop free check and it says loads of stuff until you get to the end then you have to buy it. i hate it when they do that.
My computer is running slower than it used to even with 8meg broadband.

ahh, so your browsing the internet? your webbrowser slowing your computer down and all sorts of junk is at the top of your internet browswer?
Does it say Mozilla FireFox 2, Mozilla FireFox 3 or Internet Explorer?
If it says, Internet Explorer download http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/ as that will replace IE with something more suitable and quicker to use. IE is a magnet for junk to install itself to it.
Don’t bother with cleaner programs, lets identify whats what first…

I do have firefox 3 that did seem to speed things up a bit but then seems to be slower than ever, so i thought it was firefox causing it.
Its more when i’m using the internet rather than computer in general.

ff3 is pretty damn good, it has been updated recently which it should do automatically… i dontknow why ur cpu is high… unless your miss-reading it as CPU Usage is around 10%

My cpu is low this morning but laptop keeps going slow.

I don’t know if this is relevant to you – but I have just installed the Back2Zip program mentioned here and have found that is slows my machine a lot.

Have you tried using the disk defrag and cleanup?
What about emptying your temp folder sometimes that can be a bit crowded.

I had this problem with my laptop was taken a lifetime to even start up. Installed "end it all" and been great ever since. This may not be the answer to your problem, but worked for me. You can get the free downloads by doing a google search. "END IT ALL"

Just downlaod end it all but seems pretty complex and i don’t want to delete something i need.

No it wont delete programs, it just shuts them down from running in the background. Install to your computer then on desktop icon double click then hit end it all " then it will just go through the list shutting each one down.
If you dont want a program to be shut down you just click on it from the end it all list and protect program.

Well i would shut them all down and as you need them open them. It’s basically just giving you a fresh starting point. To then open the programs required.

If you open run form the start menu and type msconfig you can close your start programs and your service programs.
there is an option in the service tab to hide all Microsoft programs and then you can disable all that aren’t necessary.

Your first stage has to be to run an independent virus and spyware checker. If all is well then you may as well bite the bullet, backup all your user files etc and re-install windows. You could spend hours finding the problem and a reinstall, although time consuming in itself, will give a leaner, faster machine every time.
Try AVG for the virus checker and Spyware Terminator running the scans only.
