  • hp design jet to buy or not to buy

    got the chance of a designjet 500ps 42", I will mainly be printing onto vinyl and banner material on this printer what do you guys think, its a good deal as i have a limited budget but dont want to waste what little spare cash i have
    grateful for any input/advice… is there something better for me?? 😕

    I’m not sure but it looks like it uses dye inks, these don’t have the UV resistance to last outdoors, fine inside for short term promotional stuff but no good outdoors.

    See if you can find any specs on the inks used.

    HP5000 and 5500 have to have an optional UV kit fitted to use the UV pigmented inks so very unlikely to have this as standard.

    Personally I would give it a miss, not what you want to hear I know but if you could pick up suitable printers cheaply then most sign shops wouldn’t be investing in solvent machines.

    Out source your print work add a mark up and build the printing side of the business until it’s at a level when you need or can afford to buy the right gear for yourself.
