  • How to mesure up from a photo

I’ve had a customer want some signs making, it’s quite a distance from where I am based and is just an initial enquiry for a price.

I have the attached picture… I know that the road sign is 6inches tall.

In photoshop what is the best way to calculate the size of the sign, so I can give an accurate price, before trekking over their to measure up?

The standard brick is 3 inches high by 6 inches wide, so I’d count the number of bricks up the side of the sign and along the bottom. Should do you for a basic estimate.

Beg your pardon David – standard size is 3 inches x 9 inches.

Sometimes I have ’em stick a dollar bill beside what needs measuring.
But our dollars are different from yours.

I’m with Neil on this. Count the bricks. Then I go measure it outside against our brick work but only so I allow for the mortar.

For pricing purposes I don’t think George will be far off.

    Cheers

If you know the height of the road sign just scale it up. It’s good enough for a quick quote.
