    Hi All,

I Have a customer who wants a mercedes sprinter luton to be wrapped or vinyled depending on what i can do for this.

The area to be vinyled is perfectly flat apart from it has rivets. so can i use a normal vinyl or do i use a cast vehicle wrap vinyl and how do i actually apply the vinyl on to the rivets.

also the back shutter needs doing is well so would i cut the vinyl in to the shutter strips?

    Thank you

Any cast vinyl will be OK for a job like this, don’t need to go to the extremes of a wrap material.
Just apply as you would to a normal flat surface then go back to the rivets with a bit of heat and either a rivet brush or you can use the edge of the squeegee. Might be an idea to pop a couple of rivets into a bit of old board for a practice before you do the job as there is a bit of a technique to doing it properly.
Not sure if I have seen any tutorials on dealing with rivets but sure there must be some about.

Shutters well it depends on what type they are as there are a few different types and all treated differently.

as martin says, have a play with a sheet material with some rivets in it and see how you get on. best way is to pretend the rivet isnt there and allow your squeegee to glide over it. dont apply too much pressure doing this initially.

yes cut the slats, i would go as far as to cut back from each edge a minimum of one millimetre or the constant movement of the shutter will grind on the edge of the vinyl when rolling and make it either come away or look bad.

you may want to use a cast with an air release system in it for this as you sound like this is new territory for you.
do NOT use wet application when working with rivets you will simply pocket the water at each rivet and never get the fluid out. the vinyl will then become brittle around the rivet and begin to break away.

Considering the size of the vehicle and the large panels to be applied and dry for that matter, how would you position and ensure that the last panel is not drifting off and alignment remains accurate.?? would you mark out first or is there a nak to this??

    thanks for the replies

I have never really done a full wrap, just a few bonnets, roofs etc.

I have seen full printed wraps being fitted many times, and I think what they do is as half inch overlap, that way it can all be aligned easily.

As I said, I’m not the best person to give advice on this subject, but a lot of people here will be able to help 🙂

Hope it all goes well, good luck!
