  • How to create sequential numbering stickers

Posted by Jon Miller on 25 August 2016 at 09:58

    Hello guys,

I have had a request for 4 sets of round stickers numbered 001 – 200.
Is there an easier way to create these with the software I have rather than entering each by hand? Illustrator,Photoshop and Excell are the softwares available to me.
The stickers will have a logo on too, not just the numbers. The logo will remain the same.

    Kind regards,

    Jon

    Hi Jon,
I don’t think any of your software can do that without an intensive work.
But I know you can do that in a breeze with InDesign because it’s a pagination software. One tutorial is here but there are tons of others on Google. http://indesignsecrets.com/making-numbered-tickets.php.
Not sure if you can do that on InDesign trial mode but it’s worth a try. Install InDesign as trial and see if works.

Let us know how it went.

Thanks George, I shall have a go when I get a chance and keep you updated.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Jon,

I’m not sure what rip software you use, but Versaworks can make variable data.

It takes a little bit of setting up in the design software.
I use Corel so am unsure how to do it in the software you use.

I’m sure it’s in the user guide, but this is only helpful if you use Versaworks

Sign lab can too using the badges function.

Versaworks also can, but from memory is limited to fonts installed on the machine VW is running on.

    Rasterlink 5.

Forgot to mention I also have omega 5 for the edge which I would imagine should have something for that given the type of printer it is. No use for inkjet though unless created in there and exported as vector..
Something else added to tge growing list of things to look in to 🙂

Send the spec over, and I’ll knock the artwork up in sign lab and I should be able to export it as a PDF, with the cut path…

Wow, most kind David thank you.
It will havve to wait until I am back in the unit. Will also have a look at the other methods first before troubling you. 🙂 as is something I need to be able to do myself really. What if you are on holiday or something just when I need it :D..

Honestly, take a look at signlab.

We’re adobe user, and whilst the interface of signlab to me looks like something from the 80’s, it has some really good features. Barcode Printing, Badges, variable data, easy contour cut tools, and it’s really easy to do.

Although we usually create the fixed artwork in illy, and import to SL, the just drop in the variable bits.

Thinking about it though, indesign should do it too, and export each sticker as an individual pdf. So long as the cut path is the right spot colour it should work.

David is right Indesign does it and will put x amount to a sheet if you want then your not stuck to the 250 limit in versaworks

Will try indesign trial tomorrow at some point and see if it is present there. Will do some digging regarding the omega too as I would have thought that would surely have a similar feature.

It’s there on the demo. It’s under Window-utilities-data merge

Jon, omega has an automatic sequential numbering option. Just use the #1 where you want to repeat, then tools-repaets/merge and then auto-number.Gives you plenty of options for repeating 1 2 3 4 or 01 02 03 04 001 002 003 004 etc……

Thanks Fred, I thought it must have the option!
Quick test importing file from illustrator, creating the sequential edits and saving and opening in to illustrator again.. worked a treat, thank you!!

Glad you got it sorted Jon :smiles:

You can repeat horizontally first, as well as vertically,
if you are cutting them into individuals, whichever is easiest to keep track when checking/packing.

    Hope that makes sense.

Cheers John. I don’t have that option in my menu. Maybe it’s the next version up from what I have?

Sorry bud, I don’t know the software so cannot say. I guess give Flexi a shout to see which versions offer this feature.
Maybe it is in there but hidden in a menu or under another tool name.

I have the same type of job to do. 1-700 for some stickers. I have Illustrator with rasterlink 5 but do fancy manually entering all 700!

I have found this that might help others but I havent had chance to set it up yet. Its a script that runs in illustrator so sequential numbers can be inputted.

Im going to see if InDesign trial works any better

InDesign should be able to do it quite easily, as long as the trial let’s you output print ready files.
We either use data merge (with a csv file containing the numbers) or you could just put a current page number in the master page and insert 700 pages.
