  • How to apply gold/silver mirror vinyl on glass? Any advice?

    Hi,

I have to do a job tonight, snowflakes on the shop window, on the outside.
The vinyl is Avery silver and gold mirror on both sides. Trouble is this vinyl has to be applied dry.

Any advice please how should I install this kind of vinyl? Every time I get small bubles that never go away. It is impossible to punch them, they are small and plenty.
This mirror vinyl does not behave same as a standard white vinyl, for example, it is more tricky.

    Thank you,
    George

I would suggest it’s recommended dry app as its a water based adhesive which will go ‘milky’ if applied wet, you could try rapidtac or similar product, or apply onto clear vinyl acrylic adhesive pre cut circles with a laminator, this will then give you a vinyl you can apply wet, as this sounds like a seasonal short term display it should be fine.

Thanks Gil, I would never think to that.
It is not accepted for this job but it is an useful trick for further jobs.

    Cheers

Why can’t you use water and what size are the snowflakes .?

The vinyl has water-based adhesive. Size between 300-800mm diameter.
Also, last year during same perios, I have done a similar job and I used application fluid. Terrible mistake! I put the vinyl up in 20 minutes and spent 4 hours to remove the transfer, with a heat gun. The mirror vinyl refused to stick on the window. It was like all adhesive was washed down.

Anyway, thank you all for reply. I managed to put them up dry. The result was very good but not perfect.
