  • How’s everyone coping with all the snow?

Posted by Phill Fenton on 1 March 2018 at 10:21

Just wondered how well everyone is coping with all the snow? I decided to return home yesterday early afternoon after a red weather warning was announced and was able to do a few things from home. I didn’t have any specific jobs booked in to do today so I am still at home waiting until lunchtime before deciding whether or not to go back into work today.

we must be 16+ inches deep in snow now.
No deliveries coming in for stock
Staff cant get to work due to no trains, buses, and multiple red weather warnings. Cars abandoned everywhere…

That said, we still had 4 of our local staff make the extra effort to get to work and we were still productive to keep on top of orders that will go out as soon as there is signs of a thaw!

I recon it will be at least Tuesday/Wednesday before we can even look at being back in full swing again. :awkward:

Went into work lunchtime today but the entire industrial estate was deep in snow with almost every business closed. Ended up parking the van well away from the unit and had to trek through deep snow just to get to the front door. Needless to say I didn’t stay long and headed home again. I reckon it will be Monday before anything like normal service is resumed

Phill, why don’t we just go to the pub with John Thomson. We are all close to each other anyway! 😉

Not too bad here, tuesday was worst for us, though my biggest problem currently is getting in and out of where we live (cottage in middle of nowhere on a shooting estate), snow has blown off the fields and into the recess where the drive is, then frozen solid! I have to go uphill and then downhill just to get the a 13ft wide back lane, 4 miles before I even see a B road! getting in is harder, especially as I’m so busy trying to line up the van for a run up the hill that I forget to put the bollard down, lose momentum and have to start again!!

We’re meant to be getting more later so I’ll keep an eye on that!

Almost out of print media and low on ink and can’t get deliveries. Not doing external fittings that take more than an hour as it’s freezing (aborted a 10 hour install part way through in Cowdenbeath as snow was getting silly). Thankfully had a good few jobs inside shops to be getting on with and catching up on artwork and quotes. Still wearing my shorts…although had to dig my car into and out of my parking spot at home. City centre is dead…all for 3-4" of snow.

I had to put on my big coat on wednesday….

Only had about 6" of snow, the rest was drifting upto 18" deep in the estate. Being on the coast the windchill was -14degrees at its coldest. Hence, big coat time.
