How not to do business..total waste of my time
I recently went to purchase a new laminator:
Company 1: Good machine, deal done(Have two separate emails stating the offer price).
Invoice arrives, €550 + vat dearer than what was agreed, immediate payment needed. Hmmm….Just so happens the same morning I get a phone call from the second company who’s laminator I had also done a demo on.
Company 2: The boss wants to offer their machine at a much reduced price, he hopes that this will entice me into buying my materials from them. Okay, I’ll purchase the laminator, I pay in full as I wanted to claim vat back in that period.
Laminator & engineer arrive 2 weeks later. All set up & training begins.
Engineer having difficulty setting up, also he said this laminator won’t operate with laminate with the liner on the outside.
Me: But it clearly states on the machine that it does liner inside/liner outside/no line, it even has instructions printed on it. After a bit of faffing around he leaves as I had alot of work to get out.
I get back to it after a couple of days, and sure enough trouble. Can’t use laminate with liner on the outside, it just sticks to the backing paper take-up, when the rollers are up to their max only a 16mm gap, even though it’s meant to laminate substrate up to 1inch thick.
I ring the area sales rep, we’ll see what we can do. Engineer comes back, I can’t do anything, he agrees the laminator is not fit for purpose.
Sales rep rings & offers the demo laminator that I had a look at with an additional bar that the manufacturer said will fix the liner outside issue. I say no, I have no faith in this machine, I want a refund.
He comes back with an offer of their demo roll over with all the bells & whistles for a cracking price as they dropped the ball with the not fit for purpose laminator. I so want one & at this price I can’t not go for it. I book a demo, & tell him if it goes well I’ll purchase. I book for the following Monday.
On the Thursday I get a text that someone will be down Friday morning to collect the laminator & that the roll over will be in Friday’s emailled offers at the knock down price to all their customers with a "first deposit secures it". Hmmm.
I think this is crazy as I was of the impression that I was being made a deal for the feckup and am booked for demo the following Monday.
Friday morning, guy arrives in van with a 4 foot pallet to collect the crap laminator, it’s bundled into the van. I take photos to prove that it is being shipped incorrectly as I don’t want to get blamed for the damage that will surely be caused by this form to transportation.
I ring the rep and say I won’t be up on Monday as I think that this is no way to do business.
Thankfully I got a full refund today.
What a waste of time.Rant over, at last.
