I was estimating about 100 hours labour @ £15.00 per hour, I usually charge a little more for such a specialist job, but I feel I could come down a little on my hourly rate due to the fact that, A) I actually really want this job, and B) Because it’s a little unusual and the coastguards and us RNLI lot are a bit cliqe’ they deserve a bit of a discount.
So…….Labour came in at £1500.00 plus gold/grit-blasting and paint, making the total £2200.00 which I felt was quite reasonable bearing in mind that the whole thing will start off with me just as a solid cream colour all over.

Well not that I know anything!!!, but from a business point of veiw I suppose one should ask themsleves how skilled is the task at hand? and how readily available is the product? In this case I reackon they are so lucky to have a Nobby Thomas about!!! 🙂

As the staff at admin have the sole job now of getting in quotations for any works on the building they like to sorce the skills locally, and as their are only two signwiters in town, one who is unreliable, but a truely fantastic artist, I feel I have a good chance..I will keep you posted as to whether or not I get the job, and if I do I will take work in progress photographs for the board.

hgih nobby i was a mutli suface finisher for twenty odd years before starting in the sign buisness still less than a year,ive actually done this type of work,having worked on various sorts of old council buildings,banks and restored a lot of crests and courts of arms.In my humble opinion for this work if your happy to do the job for the price you quoted do it, you will probably find that time wise it will come in well under the 100 hours,once started it will move along pritty quickly, as for grit blasting i would probably go for the glass bead as it will give a better surface for the primers to adhere to,but its your choice hope this help 🙄 o yes you said you where going to paint it cream first,you could ,if you have one locally, get it powder coated by doing this first they clean it de0grease it and base it in whatever colour you want,this will then add the life exspectancey of any paint you then put over the top,depending on the size it would probably only cost around the £40 which will save you time money and give a better base to work of,,,something to think about 🙂
