We were thinking the same, I reckon and this is top of my head between £6-£8K dependent on condition???

as a px I would say 5k if you are lucky,
sell private and maybe a bit more, but it comes down to what the bottom line on price is the replacement.
you cant have your cake and eat it 😀Peter
-
Peter you’ve got SP300 going for about that, I think the 540 is worth a bit more especially as the retail price is £12K+.
I would sell privately Scott unless you can negotiate a good deal.

A two year old machine that retails at 12k will not attract any more than 5k as a trade against a new machine, otherwise the dealer would not be making any profit. If you can get more than that then go for it, but as a px then you will probably just be paying top price for the new machine,
fine if you dont want any hastle selling your machine private, or cant afford to buy outright without trading in.
But like I said you cant have your cake and eat it 😀Peter

Peter’s right as I have been looking in to printers and buying from a dealer is about £8 or £9k as they would have to buy for about £5k as they do a full service, replace heads etc and still have to make a profit.
From my point of view I am not going to risk a a large investment in to a machine that has no back up support or is going to cost a lot and would prefer to buy it from a dealer, it makes it harder for a private seller to sell it though but with this sort of equipment it is usually worth while to buy from a dealer.
You would have to find somebody who is willing to take the risk, can afford to take the risk or is self equipped to sort out any problems themselves.
Just my take on it at the moment from recent research.

Completely agree, private sale I would still be happy paying between £6 – £8K. These are excellent machines, easy to maintain, easy to check before you buy etc. If a dealer had to service and replace heads on a VP they are looking at at least £4K to do this so they would probably be looking to offer £2-£3K for a dubious machine if they were going to make any profit????
-
All the places I checked the prices is £15000 with VAT new.
I would sell private for around £8500 with VAT.
If you offer me the VP for £6000 I will take your hand and arm off.
Really with the Heads being £900 (4 = £3600) + labour , you need to post a shot count up
I was offered £9000 on my machine last year when I was considering the XC540 at a really good prices, glad I waited though with the VS.
-
The best we have been offered so far px is 7k and paying top price 18k for the new machine.
I was thinking is it worth selling but then we don’t really have the work to keep 2 machines running.
-
why would a dealer change the heads if all is printing as it should.

I was hoping to get 8 px iam not to far away still got some dealers coming back to me. The machine is in good condition all heads fire 100% so that shouldn’t be a problem.

Scott, we thought long and hard about this and it is very easy to be seduced by the machine and the extra opportunities it may present. However the white and metallic option is not a seller for us – 1 year external resistance to the weather is just not good enough, metallics 2-3 if your lucky.
The VP540 is an excellent machine and it’s very difficult to see how it can be bettered for everyday work???
-
The point is if you buy a machine private that looks like it’s working fine for 8K and in 6 months you need to replace heads you add £3600 to that price making the purchase price for a second user machine £11600 when a new machine is £10500 😕
It’s a risk, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose.
-
Agreed Warren, however Scott is in a strong position, the machine s a very sought after bit of kit as you know. You/someone could purchase this from him it could work fine for 6 months however you will have generated more than enough income to pay for maintenance, new heads, insurance etc to cover all of these problems. Beats shelling out £10.5K+++

I was wondering that as well, especially as we saw a recent price rise in these machine.
-
that’s ex vat. if you registered then the vat is of no concern really.
the concern for a first timer would be the worry and hassle of problems, with the 2 year warranty you are protected without having to shell out tons of cash to get it running again.
There are pro’s and con’s to both scenarios and I’m not saying which is right or wrong, just giving my thoughts on buying a printer as I am going through it now. Then there’s the resale value when you come to sell it on after 2 years as it is now 4 years old, if you sold a new machine after 2 years then you are in a much better position as Scott is now, doesn’t change the fact for the buyer of the 2 year old machine though 😕
Just giving my thoughts as this thread interests me and would like to keep it going really.
cheers

Still where is that price as for a VP540 with 2 years warranty, I can find the cheapest price at signmaster (£13999 with take-up £16448.82 with Vat)
http://www.signmaster.co.uk/Special_Off … ffers.html
I can see where you are comeing from with Vat but like myself I am not registered but make a good living and would like a second machine
-
very sorry guys, didn’t read properly, the price I quoted is the SP540i
points regarding buying preferences remains though :lol1:

yes ive been looking hard at it.
I am going to hold until the show so i can have a look at it and hopefully there will be some more news on it of people who have purchased one.
we do a lot with motorbike graphics and we would like to have the option of printing chrome and metallic.
I think Roland products are great so i cant see this machine being any different.the chrome and white ink is a bit pricey and as you say only 1 year life
are you going to keep to the vp?
-
Hi Scott, yes we’ll stick with the VP, I see no benefit for us at the moment plus we have a couple of Edges so we have no problem printing whites etc.
Maybe worth waiting for the 2nd generation especially with the white issue.Jason

I think you will be dissappointed by the "chrome" the metalics are not as vibrant as you may expect, nothing near the gerber foils, but the roland does print at higher res and full colour.
I would definately wait til the show before making up your mind Scot.
