  • How much for cash?

Posted by Philip Houston on 3 February 2011 at 10:31

    Hi signmakers!
I’m vat registered for the last 16 years & am now below the turnover threshold this last two years.

Running a small family business in this lovely Co.Down countryside.
At a time where every job is needed, it seems that no one wants to pay vat.
The government is forcing a black market upon us.

I wish to stay on the right side of the rules so what answer should I give to these customers. In a perfect world, cash is great but it would make the business suffer.

Should I de-register & up my prices by 10% to cover my vat charge at source?

    Hum?

PS. I know this is going to be a long thread. You’re all experiencing it!!!!

I always say the same price, it goes through my books anyway.

We considered being vat registered but as we worked out the main of OUR work is labour so I think most customers of ours would be worse off and we would be doing the extra work of the VAT return every qtr for no real benefit.
