What sort of price do other sign companies in your area charge for this sort of work? I would base my price around what other local companies are charging.
I would try to talk him out of 5mm foamex without a frame because of the problems that can be caused by it warping. I would also let him know that if he fits it himself then you can’t offer a warranty.

As Martin says: Get a feel for the pricing in the area as areas do differ
I work in London and can ask for prices that you would probably not get anywhere else

Work out how much you think you are worth in terms of say doing the fixing. Will it take you half a day or close on a full day? Then work out what your half day rate is. If you’re just starting out then guesstimating is going to be trial and error for a while
Allow yourself a little extra time when fixing as all jobs seem to have small obstacles in the way from a making it a straight forward fit.
Think about time to off load and install access equipment from your vehicle – parking and charges of your vehicle etc

All this and you haven’t costed the sign yet!!!

    Local company come up with

£295 plus vat WITHOUT FRAME AND £375 plus vat – WITH BOTH PRICES INCLUDING FITTING AND 6MM ONLY – £40 OFF FOR SUPPLY ONLY

MY price in 10mm £220.00 supply only
    with frame £310

    Breakdown supply only

    10 x 3 10mm foamex £43.00
    6 mtr Vinyl £10.00
3 Hour Lab £90.00 inc setup
    Sundries £5.00

    Frame £64.00

all prices including vat – not vat reg

To me i think im maybe a little too cheap?????

If other local companies are charging that much more then I would say that your prices probably are a bit on the low side, 3 hours labor is probably a bit conservative anyway. What have you to do? Meet with the customer, conduct a site survey, draw up the graphics, cut, weed and tape vinyl, clean substrate and apply graphics. It is all time spent on the job so should really all be counted.

I would also check that you can get 10mm foam in to a frame, I haven’t done any of this sort of work for a while but I don’t think they made a standard frame that a 10mm board would slide into so you would have to fit something like a plastic or wooden frame.

no can only get 5mm in frame

but wasnt altering price for cheaper substrate as others were priced on 6mm and i worked on 10mm and was still cheaper

    £22.00 for 6mm

If its the normal ali extrusion then its only wide enough for 3mm and 5mm with the hanging track
