Following on from my previous post about stripping acrylic I’ve just give the customer a quote for replacing their acrylic panels.

I got a price on the acrylic from 1 supplier, and didn’t put much effort in ringing round as I had an inclining they wanted it for nothing.

Customer said the sign was 7500x800mm.

    1x sheets of 3x2m 5mm opal acrylic (£364.00)
    1x Sheet of 8×4 5mm opal acrylic (£139.00)
    8m of 1220 1 CAD vinyl. (£320.00)
1 day (8 hours) bit of design & fitting the sign. (£377.00)

    I worked it out £1200+VAT.

The customer nearly choked, they only want to change 1 word on the sign.

As it’s flood coated with cad vinyl, with the wording cut from it, it’ll be nigh on impossible to match the colour.

So go on… tight arse customer, or am I miles out?

His problem is not your problem. It may be only one word that needs changed, but to realise that change is far from straightforward. I can’t see any other way of doing this easily so I wouldn’t worry too much about his reaction.

I’m not loosing any sleep, I thought £1200 was reasonable.

Had another customer ring up today for a price on a PVC Banner, telling us we need to be keen as they’re getting comparative prices… needless to say their trade discount was reduced. I’m not really bothered about competing on price, especially on a bloody 6x2ft PVC Banner.

Yet the customer who rang up wanting a £20 discount on a £300 van, that’s all cut in Black vinyl, will be paying a 50% deposit tomorrow
