  • How many metres required to wrap a bus ?

Posted by Dave Harrison on 26 February 2013 at 15:26

Have been asked to provide a quote to wrap a double decker bus for a 6 month promotional tour.
No artwork as yet but have been told it will be a full wrap either full colour change with elements of digital print and cut vinyl or full digi print..
Would like to do this one in house if we can squeeze it in the unit…

    I’m guessing 150 ish metres…. @ 54inch.

    Any ideas ?

If you look further down l"latest posts" (on the right hand side of the page) fellow member David McDonald has just wrapped some coaches, you should maybe ask him for some advice. I personally have not had the pleasure of wrapping a full coach or double decker…… yet!!! 😀

Thanks Reza, yes I have seen David’s posts regarding the coaches.
    Very nice work.
We are familiar with large scale vehicle livery and have completed various coaches, artic trailers and lorries over the years. So it’s not really advice we are after. We just wanted to hear from anybody that had wrapped / colour changed a double decker bus and could remember how much material they used.

    Hi Dave

We work on 77m’s length of 1520mm for an average double decker.

    Cheers

    Hi Dave,

It all depends on how big the coach / double decker is. There are big variations in height and length even in the same make and model of bus.

A customer of mine has quite a few double deckers, and they range in height from just over 12 feet to just under 15 feet high. There are also short wheel base and long variants. He has double deckers that seat from 56 to 92.

In terms of length, a Leyland / Volvo Olympian is anywhere between 9.6m and 12m long. As mentioned above, the heights varied, but this was based on where they operate as some areas have lower bridges than other areas. Width wise the Olympian is 2.5m.

At 12m long, 4.6m high and 2.5m wide using 54inch media and allowing 52 inches print area, you’d use around 105m give or take on an Olympian. So in terms of full rolls you’d be right in saying 150m / 3 rolls. However double deckers of these dimensions are fairly rare so you might even get away with 100m. I have assumed you won’t be doing the roof.

Kind of showing myself as a bus nut here! Having worked on a couple of fleets locally I’ve had to work this out before :p

    Hope it helps anyway

It will also depend on whether you have to do the roof or not
