How long do you keep your vinyl?

From what I understand (when I ask suppliers) vinyl has a shelf life of about 2 years although I have used older stuff with no problem. I think actual shelf life depends on storage conditions, mine is stored in a heated and dry room with my computers as opposed to a damp , cold workshop.

I’ve happily used odd coloured rolls from 2 years ago without them going ‘weird’.

Just watch out for ancient rolls that have been stored on their ends. The adhesive can migrate and leave NO glue at the top in extreme cases.

I really do need to start marking the vinyl when I get it in.
I store mine flat in the original boxes in a sometimes heated sometimes cold office.
I think the oldest I’ve used is two years with no problems.
But I do have a 4 or 5 year old roll of copper Oracal 651 and some ancient bits of SignGold I’ve saved.
I have noticed the older 651 shrinking away from the perforations just a tad but I use that for correx anyway.
I only use the 15" stuff.

Have an old roll here that is years old just use it to make paper banners for family and friends.

Cut weed and leave on the backing, ideal for parties.

as has been said, 2 years is the life on the shelf. I’ve got older stuff, but the silicon begins to break down over time.

Some vinyls are worse than others. I binned a full roll the other day of Avery that I got in for a client who changed his mind. Odd colour, never sold any, although I did my giveaway stuff with it.

Mine are stored on racks, but in an unheated room, so it cooks in summer and freezes (by our standards 😳 ) in winter.

Mine is in the house so not much temp variation.

I buy in as i need as well but there are a few bits and bobs that are more than 2 years old.

I would use them as long as they look/feel ok.
