how easy is it to stencill onto textured canvas?
I’ve been using vinyl as a stencil to paint onto blind canvas for a while and I’m getting creepage under the vinyl – which is annoying.
I’ll tell you how I’ve been doing it and perhaps someone could point our where I’m going wrong!! Firstly I cut the vinyl and lay it onto the canvas, with application tape on top. Next I iron it into place which helps to anchor it into place. Once I’ve removed the application tape I weed the letters out to produce a stencil then iron it again (with a cotton cloth to protect the vinyl from the direct heat). That’s the preparation done 😉 . After that I apply a pva mix to seal the fabric and stop any bleed and then apply two coats of emulsion. The emulsion isn’t the problem, it’s the pvc sealant that’s creeping under and it doesn’t really dry clear enough to ignore.
What I’d really like is a vinyl with a thick layer of adhesive, something that will stick well onto a textured surface. Any ideas ladies and gents please?
