  • how does Avery vinyl 800×900 cast vinyl perform?

Posted by Warren Beard on 27 May 2008 at 10:29

    Hi Guys

I will be doing a wrap and have been told the material (to be supplied) is Avery vinyl 800×900 series cast vinyl, it is a single colour wrap and wanted to know if anybody had any experience with this vinyl and could give me some opinions on it.

    Cheers

i have only used the 800 series and it is very nice. if the vehicle has extreme curves then i would rather use the 900 series.

I think though if it is your first wrap then maybe you should try and get a bubble free re positional vinyl I use 3M control tac IJ180cv2. Best material around.

I wrapped a bumper the other day with 800 series and it went OK.
Mactac do a bubble free cast vinyl maybe that could be a good bet. It comes in solid colors.

i use the 800 series just about every week and love it, great to work with around corners because the face stock is so thin, be careful with the heat gun
    you can burn through it.

i would however NOT recommend any of the 3m control tac products
they are terribly bad for anything with a recess and i can’t speak for the uk but in Ireland there not cast products and have a bad reputation for failing in any kind of recess.

the cast can take a little time to get used to using (as it’s thinner) but the end results give you piece of mind.

    hope this helps

I’m going against the grain here. I prefer the 900 over the 800. I’ve torn snapped 800 on more then one occasion. The 900 you can give it hell and get away with it.

    hey jason

unfortunately i haven’t had a chance to use the 900 series yet, but i have had that too with the 800 splitting on me when trying to reposition it, the room temperature can really make a difference when your doing a wrap.

if it’s cold when you are make sure your room is warm enough
i haven’t got a specific temperature to give you but maybe between 15c and 25c, if it’s to cold some material can become brittle and split.

Thanks for the tips guys but I have had to tell the guy I can’t do it, being my first wrap and the fact I won’t have good working conditions to do it in I have passed it up. It was going to be a practice for me as he only needed it on until September, it was an M3 to be wrapped orange and decals added as the Dukes of Hazzard car. The material is also being supplied so can’t mess it up or will run out of material.

    Anyway, thanks for the help.

    cheers
