Posted by scoobyjay on 15 September 2007 at 19:53whats the best way to plot your graphics. I use photoshop to design the image, export as bmp. open in coreldraw and use corel trace to outline, then open in Artcut2005. Has any one else got an easier way to do this? Im a pro at photoshop yet rubbish on corel draw. any tips would be great

That sound like a really round-about way of doing things to me…. Learning how to draw in Coreldraw, Adobe illustrator or any other vector based software would be the to go I think….:o
Might take a bit of time in the beginning getting to grips with the software.. but will safe you time in the end…. 😀 -
so if i learned illustrator would I just export the file to artcut? if so how do you do the outlines in illustrator? thanks for your reply

No, you would just cut directly from Illustrator or Corel.
I am also a photoshop professional and design all my vinyl work in Corel draw, nothing is done in photoshop regards cut vinyl, unless I have a bad image I need cleaned up to trace in Corel.
Everything is easy enough to vectorise some things just take time -
sorry for all the noob questions. how would I cut from illustrator? do i need a plug-in? please step me through it if you could because the way im doing it results in pretty poor vinyls. thank you so much again for your help

In theory YES (because they are vector-based software) but from my own -very limited experience- you have to have your drawings correct: no strokes or fill effects etc or things can go a bit ‘funny’. But I work with Signblazer and I don’t know ArtCut.
Signblazer has the ability make the vector drawings required for cutting/plotting. Surely Artcut has aswell?!?
I am affraid I might not be the best one to help: I am only halfway trough my cd-rom with tutorials on how to use Illustrator and in the meantime I am also learning to get to grips with all the funtions of the signblazer software.
So maybe wait till someone comes along that knows Artcut and they might be able to help you better.
Good luck with it! 😀 -
You say you have Corel draw, which version is it?
I have a roland cutter and need no plug ins or any extra software, I just use the cutter as you would a printer. -
coreldrawx3. iv just discovered signcut and now iv just walked in to even more trouble lol

Thats what I use, not sure about your cutter but I can cut directly from X3 the cutter is used just like a printer.
Check with your manufacturer if they supply a corel draw plugin
