i dont use corel, but in signlab, (assuming its a painters gap type shadow)
just select the text, apply the shadow. then select the text and apply a white outline. this will then give the impression of the space. you would just weld the text, outline and shadow in one and the white outline will disappear leaving only the cut layers.

anyway, thats signlab… im sure someone else will give you a corel method. 😀

Place your shadow, put a contour round the object creating the shadow (if printing stop here), break the contour from the object then use the contour line to cut (weld tools) out a portion of the shadow.

Tons of help in the Corel program, only problem with it is knowing what the tools/processes are called that do what you want to do……

Once you have applied the contour right click on it, select break contour apart, then click on the text and re-outline it with a smaller contour to get the gap. Its like Rob said but you need to break the original contour apart in Corel.

IMO the shadow should be made from the emboldened contour.

create contour of lettering and separate, approx 4 to 8 % of letter height
duplicate the contour and position, – trim the 1st contour from the now shadow.
there are other ways but that suits me

Contour the lettering, break apart (you may need to ungroup the contour), duplicate the lettering, move one to a position that looks to be a good drop shadow position and then trim it against the contour….

Ahhh, the simplicity of the shadow tool in Flexisign 🙂

    Ditto.

Flexi has such a simple tool for ‘Drop’, Cast’, Block and Perspective shadows and you can size it against your lettering by dragging the control point.

    Well worth the extra dollar.
