  • how do i print spot colours with a pc 60 please?

    Hi,

I have posted this question on another thread, being a newbie I was not sure where to put it…
I have used a PC60 a couple of times now having bought one second hand. I have mastered cutting and printing etc ( using Corel ) but I am unable to print using Spot Colours. Could anyone tell me how to go about this? Do I need to change things in Corel DRAW X3 or change the Roland print prefs.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Cath

    Cath,
The only way I’ve found to print these colours (or any other spot colour) is to use the uniform colour palette in coreldraw and select individual spot colours cartridge in the PC60 printing preferences. I haven’t yet found a way in printing gold or silver this way (by choosing the gold or silver colour from the palette in the design but all i do is change the bar code sticker to a black (no12) on the silver or gold ribbon and print that way.
If anyone would like to share their own way of do it (hopefully better and easier), i too would like to know :bigwink:

For single colour (ie 100% black fill) work just change the sticker to a no12 (black) and select "print in greyscale"
    Hope this helps,

    Alex.

You cannot print spot colours if your images are rasterised – they need to be vector drawn – This isn’t the cause of your problem is it Cath?

It’s a long time since I used one of these machines – but as Alex has said is in the print preferences of the print menu. Simply assign black to black , red to red, yellow to yellow etc. in the pallete.

When printing gold and silver I used to assign these as say orange – then colour the graphic part that was to be printed in silver or gold as orange.

I use the Roland to print stickers and stencils for Motorcycle helmets.

As an example, I have a design ( in Corel Draw) incorporating a cartoon figure with lettering across the middle of it. I have been trying to get the Roland to print it out using CYMK colours with the lettering in a Silver Spot colour – all to no avail.

I have been into print preferences and I have tried changing a couple of things round. Does anyone know precisely what options I would need to select in order to get the design printed out as described above.

Once again, any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Cath

As said above it NEEDS to be a full vector image. Jpg’s or Bmp’s etc. simply cannot use spot colours.

Now, going on memory from a long time ago…(on an original Colour Camm)…if you just alter the fill colour in your image from silver to say ‘spot red’ and use the silver cart when it asks for ‘spot red’.

    (Just read Phill’s post…same thing)

Could be a bit off in that advice as the PC60 is a bit more modern. 😳 but maybe be the same principle.

if you want to print a spot colour it has to be in spot colour mode.

    to do as asked,
you can select and print the image only form feed to be off.
then select the spot colour and print that, the silver will print solid on top of the other print.

or turn lettering white, print image, turn lettering colour on print selected text only.

    Hi all,
I’ve had my PC-60 for a while and still haven’t really managed to print more than 3 or 4 spot colours combined in the design (all vector by the way). If I want to incorporate a silver or a gold then I have to substitute the black for that and change the barcode sticker on the cart.

I’m using Corel X3 and the combined spot colours I can print with no problem are RED, GREEN, YELLOW, BLUE, BLACK. I select and use these from my uniform colour palette in Corel and in my printer advance settings I select Y,M,C,K CR-MR (Resin) and then below I select each colour cart with each colour. All I want to know is the PC-60 capable of printing 4 spot colours and a metallic colour (combined in a vector image) as when I set a fill with a silver or gold colour the machine will not print all the colours, or just scrolls vinyl through. I’ve tried different palettes and even re-named each palette colour with “Silver_Resin” etc like the PC-600.
I’ve also tried printing by selecting the No Process CR-MR (Resin) and then selecting each colour cart with the respective colour in the design, this still doesn’t work. I have the Silver and Gold cart colours in the list of carts but im sure it has something to do with the palette colours/ names etc or even the barcode labels for the Silver or Gold. I think I have the correct barcode labels for the Silver (11) and Gold (8).

I can get by like I said at the start but I really what to nail this issue once and for all as I know some of you still use the PC-60.
Any advice or information will be brilliant or just to hear how others manage to do it (if at all)

    Thanks in advance,
    Alex
