how do i get this file into a layered image to cut?

are you digitizing this mate or using a software to trace it?

OK, if you zoom in on that image you will probably find it is fuzzy around the edges… “pixelated” or just odd bits of imperfection.
when you colour trace the software doesn’t know whats fuzz from pixilation and the hard line of the image so basically picks everything up.
there are many ways to vectorise an image, but colour tracing from a software isn’t the best. it is easy route but not accurate or leaving a sharp image. also. its better to trace black and white with no half tones/shadows etchope that made sense…
you will find one or two digitizing demos in the demo section and there is another one “video” being loaded soon by vectorwise. 😀 -
i had a quick go for you in flexi but your file is not good enough to get a good trace some one may be able to help sorry rich

To me it looks a straight forward thing to draw.
but to be honest, for what Vectorwise charges,
I would just post it to him and forget about it.
I am quite good at creating vectors, but time is money, get the expert to do it and you will save time, and therefore money
