  • How do i get a font working in corel draw please?

Posted by graficxpress on 11 March 2005 at 16:53

I have been given a font by a customer, put it in the C:\windows\fonts file went to use it in corel draw 11 but in the preview box the name of the font is there but no preview text is displayed and it won’t work? Is there a way around this or am I going to have to find another font?

    hi (don’t know your name)

I had this the other day.

I had a font that would just not work in corel

Then I noticed that it worked in another programe

So I typed all the text I needed in illustator, converted to curves and imported into corel.

a bit of hassle but it worked

Paulo has made a good suggestion here. It is good to have a font manager anyway, even if you get the other suggestions to work in the short term. I use typograph which is arguably the best in the business. Never had to worry about going thru windows font install again, and you can type the text you want to see, then have typograph reproduce it in every style that you have on your PC so you just have to scroll thru and see how it looks.

Plenty of freebies out there that do something similiar, download.com is the best resource too.

    Cheers

CorelDRAW comes with a powerful Font Management tool called Bitstream Font Navigator. Might be a starting point.

I have problems with the bundled Corel font navigator. Whenever I use it, I find that many of my existing fonts disappear from the list within Coreldraw. The font name is there but it says “Not installed” or summink.

    Is it just me?

Hard to say why this is occuring. Where does you font catalog reside? Hard drive, CDROM or network drive?

How many fonts do you have installed? What type of fonts do you typically use? TTF or T1? Have you tried rebuilding the font catalog? Locate FontNav.fdb and delete the file, then rebuild.

I really haven’t heard of too many ppl having probs with Font Nav. to be completely honest.

I have about 400 fonts installed in windows\fonts. All of the ones I have installed are TTF. What happens is, I use font navigator to search for and install a font. When I return to Coreldraw I might find a handful of fonts now have “Not available” next to them in the drop down menu and they are replaced on screen with a default font, like avant garde. I then have to note them down and return to font navigator to re-install them. Ver 9 Coreldraw, incidentally.

    Weirdsville, man. 😮

PS This never happens if I just browse the fonts folder on the install CD and click “Install”. However, I prefer to use the font Nav as you can preview the fonts easier.
