How do I find out remaining ink on SP540V ?
Posted by Gary Hazard on 16 August 2006 at 10:36Hi all
The engineer printed a report out for me after he installed the
machine last month showing the percentages of ink left in
each cart but I must not have been paying attention in all the
excitement 🙂Anyone know how to do this either from the console on the machine
or via Versaworks on the PC ?Thanks

scroll thru the menu on the machine, and it has an option to see ink levels. On my sc540 anyway, yours would be the same I’d imagine

Hi Shane
Thanks for the reply
Yep I can see the ink levels on the machine console but
the engineer said that these weren’t that accurate. What I was after was a "printed" report showing the ink
levels as a percentage.Trace

hhmm didn’t know you could do that at a user level. Thought that was only a tech level. He’s right too, they are not that accurate…. 😉

I thought the most recent firmware upgrade sorted that problem out?
I certainly noticed the ink levels now seem to be correct in our machine anyway…

In Versaworks, double click on the little picture of the printer in the top left corner of the screen. It should have ink levels on there somewhere, (don’t have the program open in front of me).
I never check personally, I always have enough ink in stock so it doesn’t matter if one is low.

Hi again guys
Thanks Paul, Chris and Marek for your replies
The more I look into this the more I get the feeling that
it is something on the service menu that the Roland engineers
can access but normal "end users" can’tI should get a call back from Roland tomorrow with a definitive
answer hopefully.Marek, I’m not unduly worried about ink levels just trying to work
out how much ink each banner is using so I can check that my pricing
is somewhere in the right ball park. Some banners I’ve done are full coverage whilst others are only
probably bout 40-50%Gaz

The percentages the machine shows are meaningless , the cart resets the counter to 100% if taken out and reseated. So if you have ever removed a cart – your display of ink remaining is all cockeyed.
The only sure way is weigh a full and then an empty cart and weigh yours to work out ink left. The newer gen machines have a way of reading the cart chip (all carts now have chips) to monitor ink levels , I also think this chip thing is to stop aftermarket carts being used.
Usage will be round 12-18 ml per sq meter of all inks on a prety heavily printed banner – a little more with full dark solid coverage. -
scroll through the menu on the versacamm and print out a status report this will show percentage ink levels, although they are not accurate as far as i know.
