  • how do i define Cut path in Illustrator CS2?

Hey all. Like I mentioned before, I’m new to the business, so please excuse the NEWBIE question. I figured you guys/gals could help me with my learning curve. I’m using Illustrator CS2 for my design software. Here’s my question: I just finished tracing a hand-drawn raster image that I had previously scanned into my PC. It’s a fairly simple graphic with a few curves and 90 degree angles. I deleted the raster layer that I traced from, closed all my tracing paths, and saved the file as an EPS file. This will be the first sign that I cut by myself EVER. What else do I have to do to define a cut path before I send it to my RIP software?
Thanks in advance for your help.

probably depends on which RIP your using, but using ROLANDS coloRIP software with a versacamm:

To get coloRip to see the cutpath from Illustrator CS (1 ) I have to:

    1) make the stroke 0.25
    2) Create a new swatch called ‘CutPath’, and change it to a GLOBAL swatch.
    3) change the stroke to the new swatch ( CutPath ) colour
    4) Save as an EPS.
    5) Drag or open in ColoRip and the ‘CutPath’ line is represented by a moving broken blue line

If you are using the Versaworks Rip it is basically the same. Name a new color "CutContour", make it a spot color, .25 pt line weight and save as an .eps.
It will show up as dancing ants in your rip when you go to settings.
