Go to System Preferences, and click on the Accounts pane. If the padlock is
locked, you will need to click on it and enter the admin password. Then click
on the + button, and determine which type of account you want to set up –
either standard, admin or sharing. You will be prompted to enter a new
password for use with the new account. Follow the on screen instructions,
When finished, log out, and then log back in again with your new account.Make sure you log out again when finished, and don’t have automatic log-in
selected in the security preference pane, this way anyone attempting to log
in to your account would need to enter the password. -

Yep, you’ll need the admin password. Once you have this, you can set up your
account with admin privileges if you need. Otherwise, you will need to ask the
admin any time you want to install software or adjust system critical prefs. -
